The situation

SilverLine Technologies is a mid-market professional services firm headquartered in London, providing technology consulting, managed services, and outsourced IT to enterprise clients across Europe. By early 2025, the company had accumulated over 400 active contracts spanning vendor agreements, client MSAs, SOWs, NDAs, and employment arrangements across five distinct business units.

The legal team consisted of two in-house solicitors and a paralegal. Their contract management approach had evolved organically: a shared Google Drive folder with inconsistent naming conventions, a master spreadsheet updated by whoever last touched a contract, and a reliance on email reminders for renewal notices.

The spreadsheet had not been comprehensively audited in over 18 months.

The breaking point

In Q4 2024, SilverLine's Head of Legal, David Okafor, discovered that a managed services agreement with a major infrastructure vendor had auto-renewed for a further two years at the previous year's rates, despite the procurement team having negotiated better terms with a competing supplier.

The auto-renewal clause required 90 days' written notice to prevent renewal. The contract was in a folder that had not been reviewed in eight months. Nobody caught it.

The commercial impact was substantial: SilverLine was now locked into $160,000 in annual spend with a vendor they had intended to replace. The total cost of that single missed renewal over the two-year lock-in period was significant enough that David began looking for a systematic solution the same week.

We were not negligent. We were just managing a portfolio that had grown too large for the tools we were using. The spreadsheet worked at 80 contracts. At 400 it was a liability.

Evaluating Contractg

SilverLine evaluated three contract management platforms over a six-week period. The criteria were straightforward: automated extraction of key metadata without manual data entry, reliable renewal alerts with configurable lead times, and a search capability that did not require knowing exactly which document to open.

Contractg was selected for two reasons. First, the AI Genius extraction engine required no template configuration. David's team uploaded a sample of 20 contracts with varying formats and structures, and AI Genius correctly identified party names, effective dates, governing law, termination clauses, and auto-renewal provisions across all 20 without any manual review of the extraction output.

Second, the Contract Genius Q&A capability answered questions that the other platforms could not. When David asked, during the evaluation, which of SilverLine's vendor contracts included most-favoured-nation pricing clauses, Contractg returned a cited answer in under 10 seconds. The other platforms required opening each contract individually.

The onboarding process

SilverLine onboarded their full active portfolio of 412 contracts over three working days. The process involved a bulk upload of all documents from their existing Google Drive structure, followed by a review session where the legal team spot-checked AI-extracted metadata against source documents.

The extraction accuracy rate across the portfolio was 96% on the core fields that mattered most: parties, dates, values, and renewal provisions. The remaining 4% were edge cases involving heavily redlined documents or scanned agreements with handwritten amendments, which the team corrected manually in under two hours.

By the end of day three, SilverLine had a fully indexed, searchable contract portfolio with renewal alerts configured for every agreement with an active notice window.

The thing that surprised me most was how little we had to do. I expected days of cleanup work. The AI extraction was accurate enough that we were mostly just confirming things we already knew, not correcting mistakes.

Outcomes after six months

Six months after going live, SilverLine's legal team conducted an internal review of the platform's impact. The findings were clear across three dimensions.

Time savings. The team's weekly time spent on contract-related administrative tasks fell from an estimated 14 hours to under 2 hours. Questions that previously required a manual search through Drive now took seconds. The quarterly renewal review, which had historically taken the paralegal two full days to prepare, was replaced by a Contractg dashboard that required 20 minutes to review.

Financial recovery. In the first six months, renewal alerts caught four contracts that would have auto-renewed unfavourably. The combined value of renegotiated or terminated agreements was $240,000 in avoided costs over the next 12 months. Two of those contracts were renegotiated at significantly improved terms because SilverLine had sufficient lead time to run a competitive process.

Cross-functional visibility. Finance, procurement, and operations teams were each given read-only access to the relevant segments of the contract portfolio. For the first time, the finance team could independently verify payment terms and milestone schedules without requesting extracts from legal. This change alone reduced the volume of internal contract-related email by an estimated 60%.

What changed operationally

Beyond the headline numbers, David notes that the most durable change has been cultural. Contracts are no longer treated as documents that legal files away after signing. They are treated as active business data that informs commercial decisions in real time.

When SilverLine's procurement team is assessing a new supplier, they can now check what terms have been agreed with similar suppliers in the past. When a client queries an invoice, the account manager can retrieve the relevant payment clause in the client-facing contract without involving legal. When a new SOW is being drafted, the team can search for precedent language from existing agreements.

Contractg did not just give us better contract management. It changed how the whole business relates to its contracts. People treat them as information now, not just as legal formalities.

What is next

SilverLine is currently piloting Contractg's folder AI organisation feature to restructure their portfolio by client and contract type, replacing the legacy Drive structure that has grown organically since 2019. They are also evaluating the Enterprise API to integrate renewal alerts directly into their project management workflow.

David estimates that the platform has paid for itself approximately 15 times over in the first six months of use.
